Covering the Uninsured
Relieving the burden of uncompensated care. Without reform, health care services privded to patients who are either unable or unwilling to pay (uncompensated care) would rise to $141.4 billion. The Act reduces the costs of uncompensated care by hundreds of millions of dollars through the reduction in the number of individuals who lacked insurance coverage and were unable to pay their bills.
Supporting community health centers. This law provides $11 billion in new funding for community health centers which provide health care to the poor and medically underserved. In the sixth district, we have centers in Lynn, Salem, Peabody and Gloucester, as well as numerous satellite locations totaling 26 sites in all. These funds will be used to upgrade facilities and services bringing affordable quality care to larger segments of our communities.
