About the 6th
District
The
historic Sixth Congressional District of Massachusetts encompasses
much of Essex county and part of Middlesex county, numbering
36 towns and cities in total. The Sixth District features
some of the most important historical sites in the Commonwealth,
including the birthplace of the American Navy, the historic
city of Salem (home to the Witch Trials of the American colonial
period), and the city of Gloucester (America’s oldest
working seaport, as well as home to America’s oldest
continuously operating art colony). In addition, the Sixth
District was home to such famous and historic figures as author
Nathaniel Hawthorne, painter Winslow Homer, Col. John Glover
of the American Revolution, and Gen. George Patton of World
War II.
In addition to these historic sites and individuals, the Sixth
District features some of the most beautiful scenery in Massachusetts.
From the pristine Cape Ann in the east, to the picturesque

and towns in between, the Sixth District of Massachusetts
is a beautiful place to see.
